Historical Perspectives of Abnormal Psychology Essay Example for Free
Historical Perspectives of Abnormal Psychology Essay There is no definition of abnormal psychological which has approval by the psychological social groups. Although, knowing of ones abnormal mindset is essential in assessing personal behaviors in determining what is intended (Hansell Damour, 2008). Abnormal social content is often looked upon as personal behavior opposing to social normality. This structure is essential in analizing the abnormal mindset and focus to accurately filter conduct presented whether unusual or usual. This paper will determine the start of what presents abnormal mindset and how the developement is originated for use scientifically. Lastly, the paper will inspect the psychodynamic, humanistic and existential, behavioral, cognitive, sociocultural, family support and biological theoretical areas important to the strength of abnormal psychology. Origins of Abnormal Psychology The development of abnormal mindset can be transcribed for thousands of years. To this date, people have evolved in specified cases of undesired conduct. Historically, unusual conduct is seen as biological, psychological outcomes seen also as supernatural factors (Hansell Damour, 2008). The observation of unusual conduct is often believed individuals acknowledge the idea of depletion of bad spirits, devils, and intities (Hansell Damour, 2008). As far back as the Mesolithic period, normal practices of torture would be practiced to those who displayed unusual conduct to be pardoned. Additionally, the use of exorcisms was performed to extinguish the existance of paranormal activities. Additionally, in the Roman era the chemicals in an individuals head would be released to extinguish the individuals from unusual conduct. This tyoe of consequence was passed on into the Dark Ages; Europeans viewed this conduct as psychological disease which drew evil spirits to such individuals for posse ssion. Torture was practiced on individuals who presented unusual behaviors, and was common to relinquish an evil spirt for centuries. Challenges to Defining and Classifying Normal and Abnormal Behavior Though an individual can present unusual conduct, he or she is viewed as one who violates expectations or rules in a society or culture (Hansell Damour, 2008). A lack of understanding is particularly notable because of various traditions and culture is viewed differently in consideration of the beliefs of certain traditions. An example is, a typical American will eat at a fast food chain for a quick bite at the work place, whereas many cultures from euopean all the way to middle eastern will bring his or her ethnic food to ingest, but do not condone this type of conduct. On the flip side, woman in the Middle East receive harsh abuse and it is not against the law for men to treat woman this way, but in the United States it is against the law for men to abuse their woman and he will receive a criminal offense for such behavior. In other words, it depends on the culture to consider if the unusual conduct violates law or social acknowledgement, decisions are relatively complex from area to area. Unusual conduct can affect people negatively presently, but may be viewed as usual conduct in the future. How Abnormal Psychology has evolved into a Scientific Discipline The scientific element concept within the unusuwl aspects of psychology was developed by Hippocrates, a greek doctor. Hippocrates believed biological patterns are responsible for such unusual conduct. Hippocrates believed through biological cause an individual will be more likely to be cured from such illness. Also, Hippocrates referred the brain as a componant being responsible for an individualââ¬â¢s intelligence, awareness and cleverness. With such reference, these components play a significant role in how an individual displays his or her conduct (Hansell Damour, 2008). Historically, thousands of years ago, individuals who displayed unusual conduct were labled as witches, or unusual conduct would draw in devils. The frequent attendance of church would increase because of the severity of such fear of evil. Following, the enligtenment era develoloped where unusual conduct was analysed throughly before considered a consequence for various discrepancies of an individuals brain fu nctions, an acceptance was generally regarded as a psychological disease that accounted for the use of various remedies that were implemented (Hansell Damour, 2008). Development of Abnormal Psychology: Biological and Theoretical Perspectives Unusual psychology on a biological viewpoint invests with the unusual acts that rooy from an inbalance within the brain. The use of psychotropic medications are used on a theraputic regimen to help elliviate symptoms; additionally, treatments used such as electro- convolsive therapy , and psychdynamic hypothisis to aid human contact on influences psychological through the unconscious mind (Hansell Damour, 2008). For most part, an individualââ¬â¢s conduct is essential and is charactorized from a previous experience. Psychoanalysis is used as an approach in the theraputic needs. The use of the behavioral model is essential when conditioning is relevent. Depending on the situation, the use of operant and classical conditioning are considered (Hansell Damour, 2008). Therefore, unusual conduct, and its reactives are performed to elleviate psychological disorders through the conditiining process and behavioral therapy to cure such disorder. In the 1960s, Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck implemented the cognitive approach to establish cognitive function using procedures to open conduct, stimulate ideas, feelings which establish personality and individual attitudes (Hansell Damour, 2008).

comming from mississippi Essay -- essays research papers
While reading this book, I came across issues that I had already learned about in school over the years. I knew that for a least the past sixty years there has been some sort of conflict between the perceived to be white race and the perceived to be black race. No one really remembers how it all stared but the snowball effect had taken shape and it very rapidly spun out of control. Coming of Age in Mississippi written by Anne Moody was different however because it gave us an inside look as to how the black people in the heart of it all were directly affected. I have always read a unbiased version of this story and have never been able to relate to what I was reading simply because there was no emotion on the page but I found that this time around I had no problem feeling sorry and hurting for Anne Moody and her family. This book looks at all aspects of the Civil Rights era and gives examples to almost every sub topic but the subject that struck a cord for me was appearance. I am a w oman of mixed decent and I have heard in life time people call me yellow and I never thought anything of it until I read in the book that they used that same term to describe a black person with a lighter complexion. This played a huge role in the black community back during that time and it is still relevant today. It caused a black vs. black hatred and it divided the community at a time when they needed to come together the most. This idea that the lighter young skin is, the better you are still plays a role in the black communities around the nation today. This book has many examples of when it first started the turning point for light skinned blacks. à à à à à The first time that I came across the term yellow or ââ¬Å"high yellowâ⬠in the book was when Essie Mae was describing Florence. She was Essie fatherââ¬â¢s best friends widow who he ending up leaving her mother for. ââ¬Å"Florence was a mulatto, high yellow with straight hair. She was the envy of all the women on the plantationâ⬠(Moody, 18) This is a perfect example of the appearance issue. Just because this woman had lighter skin and straight hair, she became the envy of all the other woman. It was a way for the other men and woman around to make her stand out from the rest and make her feel even more different then she already did. In the book it makes it sound as though ââ¬Å"darkâ⬠black people thought that being a m... ...ples of the Civil Rights movement and we are able to see first hand that everyone in the deep South was effected by it. We see how it changes Anne Moody from a young innocent child to a person who hates whites then to a person who works for the betterment of the black race. We see that no good came from the hate that was inflicted on so many people in Mississippi and that there were so many points in time that it all could have been stopped. We see the nice white people who help people in need and we also hear about people who have no problem burning people alive in their homes because they are black. It we had stopped this back in the 1960ââ¬â¢s we wouldnââ¬â¢t have the problems that we struggle with today. People like me wouldnââ¬â¢t have to worry about dating a man darker then me in fear that someone will disapprove of it. We wouldnââ¬â¢t have the white vs. black and the black vs. black problems that are worldwide today. If we could have stopped it at the root, it wouldnââ¬â¢t have grown out of control. We have a problem today; we are all racist. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Ã

Cashless Society Essay
CONCEPT OF CASHLESS SOCIETY Today this world is heading towards industrialization,à privatization and globalization and the only thing whichà plays an important role is strong capital. Globally the most dominant currency is GREEN BAG ($dollar) & everyone is headstrong to grab this. Now a days money is everything name, fame, power, desire, health and wealth. Let us halt here for a second and use our divine senses. Is that money really important for us to become a good soul With little stress on grey cells we find that thousands of year ago our ancestors did not use cash at all because their basic requirement was only food and shelter. Because of the cash, man becomes greedy, selfish, defiant, stubborn and notorious and he demolished his actual purpose of life. As man is a social animal so he has lots of responsibility towards society to make it free from evils like crime, cast ism, racism,à discrimination, women exploitation etc. So think aboutà a society in which no one has a cash(liquid asset) andà the survival is based on talent ,efficiency ,analytical ability and knowledge. YESâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦instead of cash ,manà exchange services to fulfill their requirement. The cashless society has multiple advantage such as reduced crime(no physical money in banks), increased competition purely based on skills ,labour and talent ,à convenience in payment between friends and most à importantly increase social interaction. For this we can have access to money via credit cards and mobile transactions and by using disruptive technology. A disruptive technology is the phenomenon occurring when two or more separate technologies converges unexpectedly to a new type of technology. If no physical money existed ,the social interaction would probably be different too.

Consuming Kids
Consuming Kids The video documentary ââ¬Å"Consuming Kidsâ⬠highlights the impact of media and advertising on the health and well-being of children. Advertising has critically changed comparing from the past to today, as it penetrates children more than adults. Companies have decided to deliver their advertisements to children due to their vulnerable minds. The techniques companies use to attach a child with their advertisement is by using famous role models equipped with their product. This influences a child to grasp that product and evidently the same child becomes a consistent consumer in the marketing world. Not only is advertisement publicized on TV but, also on the internet and cellular mobile devices, making it harder for a parent to neglect its unwanted presence. Science is involved in this documentary as scientists use the ââ¬Å"blinking experimentâ⬠to analyze the childââ¬â¢s attention rate. Scientist have mentioned that advertisers use round figures througho ut their commercial, as it has been found that children are attracted to this shape; making it harder for them to neglect the purpose of the advertisement. This is only a small contribution of how advertising has used symbolism to support its function.Using symbolism within an advertisement is very clever because it not only portrays the significance of the product but, portrays the ââ¬Å"positiveâ⬠lifestyle given when the product is purchased. Age compression plays a huge role in the marketing scheme, as it provokes young kids to feel older, making the product more suitable for the younger consumers. Advertisements affect a childrenââ¬â¢s mind negatively, as it can impact their vocabulary, cause them to lose their concentration span and eventually diagnose them with ADHD.In this documentary I was able to recognize and understand each and every perspective of how advertisements are abusing children. The media claims that parents are ultimately responsible for what their ch ildren watch, wear, and eat. I believe this is not true, because realistically a parent is unable to guard their child from advertisements every minute of the day. There is a likely chance that advertisement can be viewed at public locations like schools or daycares, making it harder to repel your child from advertisements. From this point, only the government has the ability to control such advertisements. As a society we should embrace the conflict raised from the media and publicize the negative effects of a child watching advertisements. We should ban the usage of advertisements used in schools and daycares so, children are not affected by them. A letter concerning the vital information about the documentary should be sent out to every family, so parents are aware of this cause. What shocked me the most, was the disturbing picture of the little girl who claims sheââ¬â¢s trying to be sexy. This picture portrayed a young female child with her back pointing to the camera without a shirt. As soon as I recognized that, my point of view on advertisements harming children has changed enormously. There should be no reason for children to dress inappropriately in modern society. Yes, I feel like I have been affected by advertisements throughout my childhood. From a very young age of 6, I was behaving like the young boys shown in the documentary. Similar to them, I would also commit to violence and aggressive materials, such as movies and video games. At the time, it felt normal but now recognizing the effect of advertisement I am able to comprehend that I was under the influence of media.

I only included the subject tests that are offered on some dates but not all. Biology E/M, Chemistry, Physics, Math 1, Math 2, Literature and US History are offered on all test dates, so they are not included in this chart: Test Date World History French German Spanish Modern Hebrew Italian Latin Nov. 7, 2015 Dec. 5, 2015 âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â Jan. 23, 2016 âÅ"â âÅ"â May 7, 2016 âÅ"â âÅ"â Jun. 4, 2016 âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â Test Date French with Listening German with Listening Spanish with Listening Chinese with Listening Japanese with Listening Korean with Listening Nov. 7, 2015 âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â âÅ"â Dec. 5, 2015 Jan. 23, 2016 May 7, 2016 Jun. 4, 2016 Which Test Date Should You Choose? If you know you have to take subject tests, itââ¬â¢s important to plan strategically. You should make sure that you take your subject tests on a date that doesnââ¬â¢t conflict with other major commitments.Plan on taking subject tests at a much earlier or later date than the regular SAT so that you have time to study for both and donââ¬â¢t end up with low scores on either. May and June are usually good SAT subject test datesbecause theyââ¬â¢re at the end of the school year, so you will be at your maximum level of knowledge for the subjects (assuming you took the relevant class this year). Rememberthat you donââ¬â¢t have to wait until your junior year to take subject tests. If you take a class sophomore year that directly pertains to one of the subject tests, you can go ahead and take the test at the end of that school year.Taking subject tests while the material is still fresh in your mind is the best way to avoid long hours of studying. Some tests, like many of the language tests, are not offered in the spring, so make sure you verify that you can take your chosen test on the date that interests you. You should also note that you can take up to three subject tests on one test date (although only one listening subject test is allowed per test date). Each subject test is an hour long, so even if you take three tests in one day you wonââ¬â¢t spend as much time at the test center as you would for the regular SAT. You may not need to take three tests; the number depends on the requirements of the colleges where you plan on applying. Most selective schools only require students to take two subject tests. If you're taking two subject tests on one test date, you should try to choose them wisely so that they pair well together. For example, if you need to take Math 2 and math is a tough subject for you, you should choose a second subject test in an area where you feel more comfortable so you can balance out your stress levels. Don't go too far down Stress Street or you won't be able to get back to Relaxation Road. Relaxation Road: the name of my debut ambient chill album. What's Next? The Invention of Clothing
The Invention of Clothing It is not certain when people first started wearing clothes, however, anthropologists estimate that it was somewhere between 100,000 and 500,000 years ago. The first clothes were made from natural elements: animal skin, fur, grass, leaves, bone, and shells. Garments were often draped or tied; however, simple needles made out of animal bone provide evidence of sewn leather and fur garments from at least 30,000 years ago. When settled neolithic cultures discovered the advantages of woven fibers over animal hides, the making of cloth, drawing on basketry techniques, emerged as one of humankinds fundamental technologies. Hand and hand with the history of clothing goes the history of textiles. Humans had to invent weaving, spinning, tools, and the other techniques needed to be able to make the fabrics used for clothing. Ready-Made Clothing Before sewing machines, nearly all clothing was local and hand-sewn, there were tailors and seamstresses in most towns that could make individual items of clothing for customers. After the sewing machine was invented, the ready-made clothing industry took off. The Many Functions of Clothes Clothing serves many purposes: it can help protect us from various types of weather, and can improve safety during hazardous activities such asà hikingà and cooking. It protects the wearer from rough surfaces, rash-causing plants,à insectà bites, splinters,à thorns and pricklesà by providing a barrier between the skin and the environment. Clothes can insulate against cold or heat. They can also provide aà hygienicà barrier, keeping infectious and toxic materials away from the body. Clothing also provides protection from harmfulà UV radiation. The most obvious function of clothing is to improve the comfort of the wearer, by protecting the wearer from the elements. In hot climates, clothing provides protection fromà sunburnà orà windà damage, while in cold climates its thermal insulation properties are generally more important. Shelter usually reduces the functional need for clothing. For example,à coats,à hats,à gloves, and other superficial layers are normally removed when entering a warm home, particularly if one is residing or sleeping there. Similarly, clothing has seasonal and regional aspects, so that thinner materials and fewer layers of clothing are generally worn in warmer seasons and regions than in colder ones. Clothing performs a range of social andà culturalà functions, such as individual, occupational and sexual differentiation, and social status. In many societies, norms about clothing reflect standards ofà modesty,à religion,à gender, andà social status. Clothing may also function as a form of adornment and an expression of personal taste or style. Some clothing protects from specificà environmentalà hazards, such asà insects, noxious chemicals, weather,à weapons, and contact with abrasive substances. Conversely, clothing may protect the environment from the clothingà wearer, as with doctors wearingà medical scrubs.

How to Answer the Toughest Interview Questions
How to Answer the Toughest Interview Questions The toughest interview questions can be deceptive- after all, how can ââ¬Å"tell me about yourselfâ⬠be a trap? In reality, these are questions that require some thought behind them, and that means you donââ¬â¢t want to look like the proverbial deer in headlights while you scramble for an answer. Here are some of the most common tough question types, and how to get through them. What is your biggest weakness?/Tell me about a time you failed./What is your greatest missed opportunity? These are questions designed to get you to be honest, and to (unofficially raise any red flags for the interviewer). Theyââ¬â¢re kind of a trap. If you say you donââ¬â¢t have any weaknesses or failures, theyââ¬â¢re likely to keep digging until you reveal something you might not want to reveal. If you use a blatantly positive ââ¬Å"weakness,â⬠like ââ¬Å"I love my job too much,â⬠that will likely also result in more pushing for the real you.Instead, confront these questions hea d-on. Before the interview, prep some examples of times you faced adversity in your job, but that you persevered. Find a way to turn it into a backdoor positive: ââ¬Å"My weakness is that I try to take on too much, but Iââ¬â¢ve learned along the way to trust the people around me and work on realistic plans to get the job done.â⬠Or ââ¬Å"I used to have issues with organization, but now Iââ¬â¢ve developed a planning method that works for me, and I also take advantage of tools like Asana to keep me on track.â⬠Are you a team player?/Tell me about a time you handled conflict./What would you do if you disagreed with your boss? These questions are meant to gauge your ability to work with others. Incorrect answers include: ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s no ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ in ââ¬Ëteam,ââ¬â¢ right?â⬠However, you also donââ¬â¢t want to look like a middle-of-the-pack pushover. The best way to handle questions like these is to have specific examples of how youââ¬â¢ve collaborated with others in the past. If you were the leader, make sure you emphasize that, and talk about how important it is for the whole team to work well together and put aside differences so that the work gets done.Arenââ¬â¢t you overqualified for this position?/Where do you see yourself in five years?/What are your long-term goals?à These are commitment questions. The last person a company wants to hire is someone whoââ¬â¢s going to bolt for a new opportunity six months in. Realistically, the interviewer knows youââ¬â¢re not likely to put in 50 years in this job, but itââ¬â¢s good to reassure him or her that youââ¬â¢re committed to the idea of this role. The answer to the long-term question doesnââ¬â¢t need to be, ââ¬Å"I see myself right here in this position,â⬠but definitely talk about how you see yourself growing into the role and what your professional goals are in the industry. The ââ¬Å"overqualifiedâ⬠question can be especially sticky, e specially in a tough job market were people just want a foot in the door. If thatââ¬â¢s the case, be honest that youââ¬â¢re seeking a position where you can settle in and build a new arm of your career, picking up new experiences and bringing your skill set to this new job, even if itââ¬â¢s a step back in seniority. If you practice these kinds of questions beforehand, and have a mental list of specific anecdotes and points you want to hit in the interview, the interview should go more smoothly. You never want to be caught by surprise, lest you start rambling or admitting to things that make you look like a weaker candidate. Always find a way to spin answers to these questions as either a strength or as a learning experience, and youââ¬â¢ll do well on interview day.

Musical Texture Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Musical Texture - Assignment Example In listening to the ââ¬Å"Hallelujah Chorusâ⬠from YouTube, the texture seems very different than what is in the textbook. In the very beginning of the work the singers are singing in a homophonic way, During these lyrics ââ¬Å"for Lord God omnipotent reignethâ⬠it is done in strictly, monophonic texture the first time it is sung. This gives the strength and emphasizes this particular section. The texture in the version from within the textbook lists this as monophonic. The second time that this sung, it is very clearly done in monophonic texture which is visible on the score as much as heard in the music. The third time it is sung in the textbook, it is clearly in polyphonic as it is sung in contrast with the lyric ââ¬Å"Hallelujahâ⬠. This is the same in the version on YouTube which occurs in a long section that almost sounds similar to canon. The YouTube version is the same as the text for ââ¬Å"The Kingdom of this world becomes. The lyrics ââ¬Å"King of Kings a nd Lord of Lordsâ⬠is repeatedly monophonic until it begins to turn into a polyphonic section that includes other lyrics as well, which is similar to the textbook version. The monophonic portions of the score appear on one line, while the homophonic portions appear separated into multiple lines on the monophonic YouTube score. In this example, both methods are used in order to show the use of different instrumentation. In other words, when the chorus is in polyphonic mode, they get one line, but when multiple instruments are used to create this sound they are on different lines.

Law for Business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Law for Business - Essay Example These are some of the important aspects to be covered. They should also have a good knowledge of its legal status, debts and obligations depending on the nature and form of the business and how it has been registered in the UK (Federation of Small Business Website, 2012, 1) Forms of Business Ownership While the form of business ownership to be adopted depends both on the number of owners and the funds, skills or both that they are willing to contribute and invest in the business, this can often be a very tricky though pertinent question requiring considerable thought. Any business student will be able to tell you that the usual forms of business ownership are the Sole Trader, the Partnership and the Private or Publicly held corporation. Regardless of the many combinations and varieties of business ownership that we see in the real world, they basically all boil down to the above three forms. Mergers, acquisitions and buyouts only enhance the size of the business while having differen t effects on the assets, liabilities and owners equity of the business. These are usually agreed on the basis of the takeover or merger agreements that are made. The Sole Trader business is a very easy business to start and is admittedly the most common form of business enterprise in the UK. ... lies ultimately with the business owner, and his personal assets may also be attached for the settlement of claims relating to his business obligations. There is no separation of his business obligations from his personal assets. The existence of the business is also dependent on his physical existence, for his demise would signify the end of his business in legal terms as well. Coming to the formation of a partnership, we can see that like a Sole Trader business, it is also quite easy to create. We have to decide the nature of the business, the number of partners joining, the rights, duties and responsibilities of each partner, what will they invest and how will they share the profits or losses. The business name will have to be registered with the local authorities. It is better also to have all the essential details written out in a Partnership Agreement/ Deed which is legally admissible in a Court of Law. Obtaining a business license, registering for tax purposes and opening a ba nk account in the name of the business with proper mandate for signing cheques and business letters are all that remains to get the business up and running in legal terms. A partnership may be formed for a specific purpose, and is terminated by will, or any of the partners retiring or dying. So we see here that both sole traders and partnerships suffer from the deficiencies of unlimited personal liability of the owners as well as a life and legal existence limited to the death, bankruptcy or retirement of any of the owners (Citizen Law Media Project, 2011, 1). Contrasting this with the corporate form of ownership, where we see that the disadvantages of limited financing, people and other resources have been overcome by publicly held corporations. Anybody who buys their shares in the open
SOAP Note Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
SOAP Note - Essay Example As a pharmacist, I have employed SOAP note format on various occasions, one of which involved a 62 year old woman. She came to the CVS clinic complaining of constipation and inquired on the availability of any drug that could assist in countering the condition. After careful assessment, I recommended her Senokot tablet. I did this after following SOAP note format for collecting information about the patient. The first questions I asked the patient were subjective and aimed at knowing how the patient felt. They aimed at knowing the symptoms of the condition the patient had. Constipation was the main problem the woman had. However, it was accompanied with abdominal pain and regular movement of the bowel (Ferrell, Betty & Nessa 516). She informed me that the first time she experienced the problem was two weeks ago and that it has occurred daily since then. After constipation, she usually looses appetite for several hours. I carried out an objective observation of the patient and this started by first asking the patient other conditions that she suffers from. I sought to know if she had heart disease or bowel disorder such as Crohnââ¬â¢s disease. She did not have any other disease or condition and was not under any other medication. However, her abdomen was swollen and there were infrequent actions of the bowel. Subsequently, I carried out an assessment of the patient and directed that some tests to be done to properly diagnose the condition. I found that she had hard stools and felt nausea and vomited at times. The tests I ordered to be carried out were blood tests, barium tests and colonoscopy. These were to determine weather the cause was hormonal imbalance or colon obstruction respectively. . The patient complained of abdominal pain and regular abdominal movements. She also felt tired and dizzy even without doing any physical work. She also complained of

Relationship between demand and price of house increasing in China Research Proposal
Relationship between demand and price of house increasing in China - Research Proposal Example The results from their research had suggested that the major push in the rising demand of housing in China is coming from the stimulus provided by the government. The government strongly regulates the prices of the housing market by adopting relevant polices. According to the research conducted by Rothman (2011 cited in Stohldreier, 2012) government in China wants to influence house ownership which explains the high demand of housing in the country. Researchers have pointed out that there are many factors which influence the housing prices. For instance the research conducted by Beltratti and Morana (2010) had pointed out that the main factors which influence the price of housing include variables like private consumption, rate of CPI inflation, interest rates of the economy, stock price and price of oil. Few researchers have focused on the impacts of monetary policy on the housing market. The results obtained from their study are however mixed and does not show convergence. The research work undertaken by Iacoviello & Minetti (2008) had focused on the impact of credit channel on the housing market. The results from the study had shown that house prices are heavily influenced by changes in the interest changes of the economy. However, this research was conducted in the Western countries namely Finland, Germany, UK and Norway. Researchers who have focused on the Chinese market specifically have found that rising income of the households is one of the strongest factors that have influenced the demand for housing in China. The past three decades of rapid economic growth in the country have had a huge impact on raising the income of the middle-income households including their disposable income (Chen, Guo and Wu, 2011). Additional factors that have influenced the house of pricing in China include high rate of population growth, rise in savings rate, investment in fixed as sets and rising construction

Strategic Management - Essay Example stores is able to pass on the benefits of low costs in terms of onto the customer, and this policy has earned them rich benefits, especially during post war periods and recessionary times. Fundamentally this is a food and grocery store, having its own branded goods. Most of their products are their own labeled brands, and perhaps, there would only be one or two other kinds of competing brands for each kind of product. While this restricts the choice of customers regarding variety, it induces greater sale and movement of goods. Thus, the need for having a large number of tagged brands (which may not even be moving products) is obviated, and only products that sell fast are kept on pallets. Perhaps one of the distinguishing aspects regarding Aldiââ¬â¢s type of business is that goods are stocked in pallets, customers pick up their required items from these pallets, and load into their trolleys, which are to be compulsorily used after paying a refundable token towards use of trolley. After the pallet is empty, these are again refurbished, and the process goes on. Most of the products found are Aldiââ¬â¢s own labeled and branded products, and not much of other competing products or brands are found in Aldi stores. This reduces inventory carrying costs and the economic risks of having to stock a large number of brands, which may or may not sell. ââ¬Å"The impact of using Value Chain Analysis byà is that it provides cheaper products to the consumers. In the past months, according to the Centre for Retail Studies, (2006) the cheaper products that Aldi gave the consumers impacted both the two biggest supermarkets in Australia, the Coles Myer and Woolworths. The compa nies came up with different strategies like Everyday low pricing (EDLP) and Save Everyday strategies.â⬠(Undertake a full value chain (complementors) analysis of the Australian supermarket industry and its implications on the each of the three super market chains (Woolwoths, Coles and Aldi) 2009, para.19). Extended Family Cover Essay Example for Free
Extended Family Cover Essay Survey respondents believe that women are not as ââ¬Å"internationally mobileâ⬠as men, yet 80 percent of female expatriates have never turned down a relocation, compared to 71 percent of men. A second powerful assumption is that women encounter more work-life conflict while managing a global schedule. However, nearly half of both women and men report that they find work-life balance difficult. Finally, survey respondents believe clients outside the United States are not as comfortable doing business with women as they are with men. In fact, 76 percent of women expatriates said being a woman had a positive or neutral impact on their effectiveness overseas. Both women and men, managers and human resources executives, hold the preconceptions that emerged in this study about womens ability in the international arena. Yet paradoxically, 90 percent of female expatriates, 91 percent of women with global responsibility who havent relocated, and 93 percent of men married to expatriates said they would accept their current assignments again. In fact, current expatriates (85 percent) and former expatriates (86 percent) believe global experience makes them more marketable to other companies. Compared in the past, companies at present become more open in having women as part of the workforce and consider them in equal footing as their male employees. Working Woman magazine cited Philip Morris as a company where 31 percent of all managers are women. With respect to international assignments, Philip Morris makes sure that women are tapped for those assignments. Another company, Hewlett-Packard, has a woman leading the company. The chair, president, and CEO of Hewlett-Packard is Carly Fiorina. She makes Hewlett-Packard one of only two companies in the Fortune 500 with a woman as chair, president, and CEO. Hewlett-Packard, which has a strong international presence, has a long history of supporting and promoting women (Palagano Lee, October 2005). The next items are the list of favorable companies that provide as much benefits to working mothers in their organization: Microsoft, Bacardi and Computer Associates all offer family healthcare benefits packages for partners and their children. It helps to maintain high worker performance and establishing a caring reputation are the important motivating factors, as employers believe satisfied employees will spread the word about a companys practices (Extended Family Cover, 2004). While BMW Plant Oxford, manufacturer of the Mini Cooper, presents different options of flexible, voluntary family benefits, that include insurance products, dental coverage and healthcare cash plans; workers have an option to devise their own benefits packages tailored to individual family needs. BMW also offers family social events, it is one of their strategies to improve worker morale and performance, intensifying job engagement and encouraging better relationships among employees (Extended Family Cover, 2004). IBM provides its employees with schedule flexibility, extended personal leaves and dependent care referral services. Also, IBM has recognized the need to conduct training programs that sensitize its managers to the problems that employees may encounter as they try to balance family and job demands. (Extended Family Cover, 2004). A pioneer in lactation support benefits, Procter and Gamble (PG) has such programs at all its major worksites and in most of its production plants. This kind of strategy has helped maintain high morale and retention rates. It is also enhanced productivity and reduced absenteeism among female workers. Mothers schedule their own breaks in lactation rooms that have hospital-grade pumps, refrigerators for storing milk, curtained-off nursing stations for privacy and a supply of educational materials along with a registered nurse for onsite support (Callahan, 2005). Aetna Inc. s Mothers at Work program, which received a 100% satisfaction rating from participating nursing mothers, has lactation rooms in its 50 locations and an in-house Web site with information for breastfeeding mothers returning to work. Nursing mothers receive an individual pump and professional lactation consultation. In 2004, 62% of Aetna employees nursed for six months, as compared with the 27% national average of nursing mothers (Callahan, 2005).

It provides products, technologies, software, solutions and services to consumers, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and large enterprises, including customers in the government, health and education sectors. HP is the worlds leading PC manufacturer. It specializes in developing and manufacturing computing, data storage, and networking hardware, designing software and delivering services. HP also has strong services and consulting business around its products and partner products. HISTORY:- HP was founded on January 1, 1939 as a manufacturer of test and measurement instruments by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard who graduated with degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1935. The company originated in a garage in nearby Palo Alto during a fellowship they had with a past professor, Frederick Terman at Stanford during the Great Depression. Terman was considered a mentor to them in forming Hewlett-Packard. In 1939, Packard and Hewlett established Hewlett-Packard (HP) in Packards garage with an initial capital investment of US$538. Hewlett and Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett, Packard won the coin toss but named their manufacturing enterprise the Hewlett-Packard Company. HP incorporated on August 18, 1947, and went public on November 6, 1957. Their first product was a precision audio oscillator, the Model HP200A. Their innovation was the use of a small night-light bulb as a temperature dependent resistor in a critical portion of the circuit. This allowed them to sell the Model 200A for $54.40 when competitors were selling less stable oscillators for over $200. The Model 200 series of generators continued until at least 1972 as the 200AB, still tube-based but improved in design through the years. At 33 years, it was perhaps the longest-selling basic electronic design of all time. One of the companys earliest customers was Walt Disney Productions, which bought eight Model 200B oscillators (at $71.50 each) for use in certifying the Fantasound surround sound systems installed in theaters for the movie Fantasia. OBJECTIVE Primary Objectives:- To find out the attributes that enhance the customer value by providing better service to them and know how to motivate the more people towards IT. The Project required carrying out the comparative study of prices across Brands and Models also to carry out another comparative study of Margins of Dealers and Wholesalers. This would be done by finding out the Market Operating Price at which they are making deals and the volume of discounts offered by them. Then apart from studying the dealers a study of consumer buying behaviors was also required for the specific brands. This was done by making comparative study of HP along with other brands, in terms of consumer preference. Also dealers perspectives about the brand are also to be considered along with this the effect of prices on brand preference of the models. In the research we also tried to study consumer behavior for all the brands and also the dealers perception about the market of Home PCs, Laptops, Printers, PSC, Scanner, and TFT. For this Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning of various brands on recall, believability, association, final purchase. Other Objectives:- à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ To know the brand recall by customers. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ To know the reason why people prefer HP (Hewlett-Packard) brand. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ To increase the sales volume. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ To give the customer satisfaction and also get the references from them. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ To know which factor is important for customer before buying any IT product. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ To illicit suggestion for better positioning for HP product. Focus:- The company was originally rather unfocused, working on a wide range of electronic products for industry and even agriculture. Eventually they elected to focus on high-quality electronic test and measurement equipment. Throughout the 1940s to well into the 1990s the company focused on making signal generators, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, counters, and other test equipment. Their distinguishing feature was pushing the limits of measurement range and accuracy. For instance, almost every HP voltmeter or signal generator has one or more extra clicks of its knobs than its competitors. HP voltmeter or ammeters would measure down and up an extra 10 to 100 times the units of other meters. Although there were good reasons why competing meters stopped at 1 volt full scale, HP engineers figured out ways of extending the range of their equipment by a considerable amount. They also focused on extreme accuracy and stability, leading to a wide range of very accurate, precise, and stable frequency co unters, voltmeters, thermometers, and time standards. During the sixties and seventies:- HP is recognized as the symbolic founder of Silicon Valley, although it did not actively investigate semiconductor devices until a few years after the Traitorous Eight had abandoned William Shockley to create Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957. Hewlett-Packards HP Associates division, established around 1960, developed semiconductor devices primarily for internal use. Instruments and calculators were some of the products using these devices. HP is acknowledged by wired magazine as the producer of the worlds first personal computer, in 1968, the Hewlett-Packard 9100A. HP called it a desktop calculator because, as Bill Hewlett said, If we had called it a computer, it would have been rejected by our customers computer gurus because it didnt look like an IBM. We therefore decided to call it a calculator and all such nonsense disappeared. An engineering triumph at the time, the logic circuit was produced without any integrated circuits; the assembly of the CPU having been entirely executed in discrete components. With CRT readout, magnetic card storage, and printer the price was around $5000. The company earned global respect for a variety of products. They introduced the worlds first handheld scientific electronic calculator in 1972 (the HP-35), the first handheld programmable in 1974 (the HP-65), the first alphanumeric, programmable, expandable in 1979 (the HP-41C), and the first symbolic and graphing calculator HP-28C. Like their scientific and business calculators, their oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other measurement instruments have a reputation for sturdiness and usability (the latter products are now part of spin-off Agilents product line). The companys design philosophy in this period was summarized as design for the guy at the next bench. In the eighties and beyond:- In 1984, HP introduced both inkjet and laser printers for the desktop. Along with its scanner product line, these have later been developed into successful multifunction products, the most significant being single-unit printer/scanner/copier/fax machines. The print mechanisms in HPs tremendously popular LaserJet line of laser printers depend almost entirely on Canons components (print engines), which in turn use technology developed by Xerox. HP develops the hardware, firmware, and software that convert data into dots for the mechanism to print. In 1987, the Palo Alto garage where Hewlett and Packard started their business was designated as a California State historical landmark. In the 1990s, HP expanded their computer product line, which initially had been targeted at university, research, and business customers, to reach consumers. Later in the decade HP opened hpshopping.com as an independent subsidiary to sell online, direct to consumers; the store was rebranded HP Home Home Office Store in 2005. HP also grew through acquisitions, buying Apollo Computer in 1989, Convex Computer in 1995, and Compaq in 2002. Compaq itself had bought Tandem Computers in 1997 (which had been started by ex-HP employees), and Digital Equipment Corporation in 1998. Following this strategy HP became a major player in desktops, laptops, and servers for many different markets. Culture followed:- The founders, known to friends and employees alike as Bill and Dave, developed a unique management style that has come to be known as the HP Way. In Bills words, the HP Way is a core ideology . . . [that] includes a deep respect for the individual, a dedication to affordable quality and reliability, a commitment to community responsibility, and a view that the company exists to make technical contributions for the advancement and welfare of humanity. Diversity:- Hewlett-Packard received a 100% rating on the Corporate Equality Index released by the Human Rights Campaign starting in 2003, the second year of the report. In addition, the company was named one of the 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers in 2004 by Working Mothers magazine. Hewlett-Packard is also involved in the NEPAD e-school program to provide all schools in Africa with computers and internet access. Ad campaigns:- Hewlett-Packard has used a number of innovative commercials to sell its products. Like You + HP: digital photography. A television ad campaign for Hewlett-Packards digital photography (titled You + HP: digital photography) has been noted for its simple special effects and choice of music. It won Campaign of the Year from Adweek magazine in 2004. Songs used in You + HP Campaign: à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ Picture Book by The Kinks à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ Out of the Picture by The Robins à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ Pictures of You by The Cure à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ The Rainbow by The Apples in Stereo à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ Across the Universe by The Beatles Acquisitions:- Data Systems, Inc. A small 5-person company called Data Systems, Inc. Owned by a chemical manufacturer, Union Carbide, who failed in their diversification efforts, HP bought the group and this helped to launch the HP 2116A in 1966. A computer designed to automate the collection and processing of data from the companys test and measurement devices, it marked HPs entry into the growing computer industry. Apollo In 1989, HP Acquired Apollo computer for $476 million. HP was able to achieve a growth in market share after the merger; with the market at the time valued at $4.1 billion and the fastest-growing area of the market. VeriFone On April 23, 1997, HP announced plans to acquire VeriFone, the leading provider of card-swipe terminals on retail countertops to approve purchases, in a $1.18 billion stock swap. On May 10, 2001, Gores Technology Group acquired VeriFone from HP. Bluestone On January 18, 2001, HP acquired Bluestone Software, Inc., a leading provider of B2B, B2C, and wireless open platform solutions. Indigo On March 22, 2002, HP acquired Indigo N.V., a leader in digital offset color printing systems. Compaq On May 3, 2002, Hewlett-Packard merged with Compaq Computer Corporation, a controversial move intended to make the company the personal computing leader. The merger opposition was led by Walter Hewlett, son of HP founder William Hewlett. Snapfish On April 15, 2005, HP acquired Snapfish, a leading online photo service based in San Francisco, California, USA. AppIQ In October of 2005, Hewlett-Packard acquired the private company AppIQ (short for Application IQ). The company was founded in 2001 by Ash Ashutosh and David Chang, and offered several digital storage solutions. The company had employed up to 235 people by June 2005. OuterBay On February 7, 2006, HP agreed to acquire OuterBay, a leading provider of archiving software for enterprise applications and databases. OuterBay is headquartered in Cupertino, California, USA, with offices in the US, UK, and India. Silverwire On June 6, 2006, HP announced it was acquiring Silverwire Holding AG, a commercial digital photography solutions and software provider with a strong presence in the retail photo market. Silverwire is headquartered in Zug, Switzerland. Mercury Interactive On July 25, 2006, HP announced plans to acquire Mercury Interactive (MERQ.PK), a company that provides Business Technology Optimization software (i.e. software that helps a company govern, develop and maintain its technology stack). This acquisition is expected to occur in Q4 2006 and will result in an HP software business of around $2 billion. VoodooPC On September 28, 2006, HP announced it will expand its presence in the gaming market by acquiring VoodooPC, a maker of high-performance gaming, luxury, and entertainment PCs based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This acquisition is expected to close by November 2006. Competitors:- Major competitors of HP in the computer business include Apple Computer, Dell, Gateway, Lenovo (Purchased IBMs Non-server Personal Computer Business), Sony and Toshiba. Major competitors of HP in the server business include Sun Microsystems, IBM and Dell. Major competitors of HP in the printer business include Brother, Canon, Epson, Lexmark and Dell (who rebrands and repackages Lexmark products) Outsourcing:- In 1994, HP decided to outsource its manufacturing to third-party vendors and oversea countries to lower costs and raise profits. Today, desktop computers are assembled in Guadalajara, Mexico where HP employs approximately 1,500 workers. Notebook computers are assembled in China from third-party vendors. Servers and workstations are still assembled in the United States. In 2003, HP had 140,000 employees worldwide. Under HPs current restructuring program, HP began reducing its workforce to lower its costs. By 2006, HP experienced a record profit of $1.5 billion in just one quarter. While the scale and reach of business have changed in 66 years. The challenge is to continue to shape the impact of corporations as a constructive force, using our heritage and our actions as tool for doing so. Made for India Marketing:- Brands and Marketing were traditionally dominated by the US, Germany and Japan. In Interbrands global brand scorecard, 14 of the top 20 global brands are US brands (HP is 12 by the way). Consulting firms, advertising agencies and market intelligence companies were primarily based in these countries. Product marketers worked in those three countries; they catered to the local customer needs and created products for those markets that would be then exported with little differentiation to the rest of the world. I was in Bangalore, India recently and I was struck by how much this could become the model of the past. I recommend reading Goldman Sachs excellent economic paper -Dreaming with BRICs: The Path to 2050. The report predicted in 2003 that in less than 40 years, the BRICs economies (Brazil, India, China, Russia) together could be larger than the G6 (top 6 economies in the world) in US dollar terms. By 2025, they could account for over half the size of the G6. Of the current G6, only the US and Japan may be among the six largest economies in US dollar terms in 2050. The recent trends and stats from the BRIC countries indicate that this prediction is accelerating and things may happen sooner. Products will need to be developed specifically for the customer needs in those countries, campaigns will be tailored to local tastes and Marketing will happen increasingly first in those markets and then get exported to the rest of the world, even for US brands. Nokia, which is the only company in the top 20 brands that is not based in any of the three countries, is a great example of this trend (Nokia is based in Finland). Nokia started operations in India in 1995. In 2005, India is among the top 5 markets for Nokia worldwide. Nokia has developed major efforts in adapting its products and advertising to the specificities and tastes of the Indian market: 1998- Indian ringtone 2000- First Hindi User Interface 2002 -First Hindi text input -2003- First Made for India phone (Nokia 1100) 2004 -Hindi SMS campaign 2005 -Local User interface in additional local languages If you consider the forecasts of the Goldman Sachs report, India and China will represent soon 2 of the top 3 markets for most technology products. This will have significant consequences on marketing resource strategies as these markets evolve from low cost offshoring tactics to local strategic marketing talent hiring. This clearly highlights the imperative to re-think the core competencies of US-based Marketing and evolve marketers skills accordingly. Product line of HP:- HP has ventured into various products in different categories. Some of them are as follows 1 Printer:- 5 Desktop computers:- 1.1 LaserJet printers (color and monochrome) 5.1 Compaq Presario Desktop 1.2 ColorJet printers 5.2 HP Pavilion 1.3 Officejet All-in-one printers 1.8 Designjet Printers 6 Plotters 1.9 Deskjet printers 7 Pocket calculators 2 Digital Cameras:- 2.1 Original line 8 Blade Systems 2.2 HP E-series 2.3 HP M-series 9 Personal notebooks 2.4 HP R-series 9.1 Pavilion notebooks 9.2 Compaq Presario 3 Scanners:- 9.3 HP Mini 3.1 Scanjet series 3.2 Film scanners 10 Workstations 4 Mobile phones 11 Servers CONCLUSION The Indian I.T. market currently appears to be at a crossroads, where I.T.marketers are attempting to change the customer perceptions of their brands in the specific buying motivations appear to be replacing generalities. This meanwhile is quite unlike the west where buyers consider, aesthetics, comfort and safety, not necessarily in that order. Before finalizing a purchase. Its smarter to think about emotions and attitudes if marketers are to do a better job of marrying what are HP offers to the consumers image of the offerings. The mindset of the Indian Consumer is such that he is delighted if he buys the pen, a little cheaper than his neighbour. Things are, however, a slowly changing and customers at the upper end of market are now ready pay more for more. I hope that this approach will soon enter the new era, may be not with the same intensity. Success will largely determine to the extent a company can differentiate itself in terms of intangibles that grow with the product. In 1973 HP becomes the first US company to institute the flexible working hours or flex time. Under the program, HP employees can begin work at any time during a two hour period and leave after completing an 8 hrs. workday. The purpose, as explained by Bill, is to gain more time for family leisure, conduct personal business, and avoid traffic jams or to satisfy other individual needs. HP introduces the first electronic calculator to print Japanese characters. The model 9810 desktop calculators are marketed in Japan by Yokogawa Hewlett-Packard.

Thyroid Cancer Essay example -- essays research papers
The thyroid gland is the gland that makes and stores hormones that help regulate the heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and metabolism. Thyroid hormones are essential for the function of every cell in the body. They help regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions in the body. Thyroid hormones also help children grow and develop. The thyroid gland is located in the lower part of the neck, below the Adam's apple, wrapped around the trachea. It has the shape of a butterfly with two lobes attached to one another by a middle part called the isthmus. The thyroid uses iodine, a mineral found in some foods and in iodized salt, to make its hormones. The two most important thyroid hormones are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The thyroid gland also makes the hormone calcitonin, which is involved in calcium metabolism and stimulating bone cells to add calcium to bone. Thyroid caner is a disease in which the cells of the thyroid gland become abnormal, grow uncontrollably and form a mass of cells called a tumor. Some tumors grow and enlarge only at the site where they began. These types of tumors are referred to as benign tumors. Other tumors not only enlarge locally, but they also have the potential to invade and destroy the normal tissues around them and to spread to other regions of the body. These types of tumors are called malignant tumors or cancer.() Malignant tumors of the thyroid gland tend to develop gradually and remain localized. The tumors usually appear as nodules or lumps of tissue growing on or inside the gland itself. Almost 95% of these lumps or nodules are non-cancerous (benign), and are usually caused by thyroid conditions such as goiters (Shin 422). The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 23,600 new cases of thyroid cancer in the U.S. in 2004 (Thackery 1057). Women are three times more likely to develop th yroid cancer than men. Although the disease also affects younger people, most people who develop thyroid cancer are over 50 years of age. Caucasians are affected more often than African-Americans (Rubin 88). à à à à à There are four main types of thyroid cancers: papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic. These tumors are identified by the type of cells seen under the microscope. Papillary thyroid tumors occur most often. This type of thyroid cancer develops on one or b... ... people with thyroid cancer have no known risk factors. Therefore it may not be possible to prevent it. However, inherited cases of medullary thyroid cancer can be prevented if radiation to the neck is avoided (Longe 3308). If a family member has had the disease, the rest of the family can be testes and treated early. The National Cancer Institute recommends an examination for anyone who has received radiation to the head and neck area during childhood at intervals of one or two years. It is also recommended that the neck and the thyroid should be carefully examined for any lumps or enlargement of the nearby lymph nodes. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Work Cited Longe, Jacqueline L. ââ¬Å"Thyroid Cancer.â⬠The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine. 2nd ed. 2001. IBM: Corporate Level Strategy Essay
IBM operates primarily in a single industry using several segments that create a value by offering a variety of solutions that include, either singularly or in some combination, technologies, systems, products, services, software and financing. This may lead you to believe that IBM has adopted a corporate level strategy of concentrating on a single business unit, but this is only half the picture. For IBM there is not one general type of corporate strategy that best suits their needs, but a combination of both a concentration on a single business strategy as well as a vertical integration strategy. A single business unit strategy means that IBM is concentrating on competing successfully within the confines of a single business unit. An advantage of choosing such a strategy is that the IBM can focus its total and collective resources to dominating and becoming successful in this business area. If IBM were to attempt to pursue some other strategy such as diversification, they might spread their resources out too thin, thus inhibiting them from taking advantage of some other opportunities that may come about due to a lack of available resources. Another advantage to pursuing a single business unit strategy is that IBM is remaining within an area with which it has a great deal of competence and experience. This decreases the likelihood of IBM partaking in a venture that may be unsuccessful and it keeps IBM in an area where their existing capabilities and resources can contribute and add value. But concentrating on just one business area may not be enough and so as previously stated, IBM has also adopted a corporate level strategy that involves vertical integration. Vertical integration can be seen in the corporate level strategy of IBM in their acquisition of various inputs such as the LSG Group Inc., which offers services ranging from application development to information technology consulting. This is known as backward or upstream integration. Choosing a strategy such as vertical integration generally gives a company a competitive advantage by improving scheduling, by creating efficiency-enhanced assets, by protecting product quality and by enabling the company to build barriers to new competition. IBM operates in more than 150 countries worldwide and derives more than half of its revenues from sales outside the United States. IBM has adopted an international strategy with respect to how it plans to compete and operate globally. By adopting an international strategy IBM looks to create value on a global basis by transferring valuable skill and products to foreign markets where local competitors lack those skills and products. Although much of IBMââ¬â¢s revenues come from overseas sales, they tend centralize the majority of the decision-making and other company functions right her in the United States. This means that they first develop marketing and product decisions in the United States and then transfer what they have done in the United States to other countries. This does not mean that no adaptation was done at all but it does mean that any adaptation that may have been done was kept to a minimal. In many cases the modifications IBM may carry out with respect to its business decisions in a particular market may be due to the laws and policies in a particular country. IBM could also be forced to modify its business decisions in a certain country due to the economic and political changes in those countries and by macroeconomic changes, including recessions and inflation. An example of this would be when a weakness in the economy of Asia had an adverse effect on the companies business in 1998 and forced it to change its strategy with respect to that market while the countries economy got itself back together.

Sex Offenders
Continue with Current Sexual Offender Restrictions Remove All Restrictions After Sentence is Served Remove or Lessen Only Housing Restrictions Use Alternative Treatment Methods Sexual Offenders Rights are restored however w/o treatment repeat becomes more likely Sexual offenders are still robbed of there rights/ Increased offences Restores the ability to live in society/still restricted in other ways Best option for reducing repeat crime/does not deal with ethical restrictions and possibly increase the rate of sexual predation. Link 3) http://www. Doc. WA. Gob/community/expounders/relinquishment. P This Article points out the basic rules and requirements of a sex offender living with in a community. Many of the restrictions are direct infringements of constitutional rights such as the first and second amendments. When reading this article it became apparent to me Just how restricted of a life many of these individuals live and I was shocked by the number of constitutional rights that where infringed upon. Section 3 Section 4 I believe the best consequential theory to use in regards to the ethical dilemma facing Attorney General Abaca is the theory of rule utilitarianism. One of the major represents of Rule Utilitarianism John Stuart Mills states ââ¬Å"The corollaries from the principle of utility, like the precepts of every practical art, admit of indefinite improvement, and, in a progressive Potential Victims Victims continue to suffer as conditions force offenders underground Allows for proper reintegration and tracking lessens risk of repeat Without proper treatment the removal of all restrictions could be detrimental Greatly reduces risk for repeat or continued abuse Attorney General Abaca Abaca will continue to receive scrutiny from human rights activists Abaca may look soft n crime, but rates of offence will drop Abaca could solve a major ethical problem and make the system a little fairer Abaca may KICK sort on crime, rates AT offence my Increase crumble s society as a wangle Offenders gain rights back but safety as a whole suffers Society Benefits Since offenders are less likely to repeat offences Society benefits and is able to better track and accommodate the problem Society will continue to suffer and rates of offence will increase state of the human mind, their improvement is perpetually going on. â⬠Meaning continued human progress should coincide with the utilitarian rule implemented. Rule Utilitarianism differs from Act Utilitarianism because act utilitarianism is limited to one single action that has the greatest good for all While rule utilitarianism promotes the greatest good for all through time or a set rule. In this way Rule Utilitarianism can be used to create Utilitarian laws to resolve many of the ethical problems regarding the restrictions against sexual offenders. For instance a law passed that restricted a 2500 square feet buffer zone down to 1000 around most public building where potential victims would exem plify rule utilitarianism. This would still keep potential victims safe while also allowing convicted sexual offenders to get housing. This would also progressively keep offenders from going under ground due to lack of housing and would keep them in the system reporting to parole officers and other watchdog groups. A Non-consequential theory that I believe best applies to this ethical situating is the rule of Natural Law. Natural law is described as the innate rights we have upon coming into the world like the right to protect ourselves and our property. These rights are not given to us by government religion or ruling body but rather are embed upon us when we are born into the natural world. In regards to natural law The ancient philosopher Lakeside stated to his fellow states man Xenophobe that it created was not governments that created laws because if it was them that truly created law it it would be ââ¬Å"not law, but merely forceâ⬠. Natural Law applies to this modern ethi cal dilemma of restrictions on sexual offenders because in this case the law of man is in this case infringing upon natural rights. For example the ban on sexual offenders that prevents them from owning a firearm can be seen as a bar against the natural right to protect ones self. This goes both ways however because when natural law is applied to society the natural right for society to protect itself from sexual predators can be see as the right to prevent sexual predators from having weapons such as guns that can society. However I believe natural law in this case holds greater precedence with the individual and thus restricting certain rights of offenders can be seen as crimes against natural law. Section 5 I Delves Tanat ten most tentacle way to resolve tens solution would a De to Increase alternative forms of treatment and remove restrictions that prevent rehabilitated individuals from operating normally in society. Hen comparing the outcomes of excessive housing bans it becomes clear that they are ineffective and are causing more widespread problems than the initial problem the bans where meant to curb. I believe holding prisoners in Jail after there sentence is also unethical because repeat rates are low and if alternative psychological treatment was given the offender could be successfully be rehabilitated thus creating the greatest good for all. I believe that removing all restrictions would be foolish because limited restrictions have proven effective when not taken to the extreme. There do exist entirely mentally unstable individuals and because of cases like this some preventative measures are still necessary to keep society safe.Section 6 Possible arguments against the alternative forms of treatment and decreased restrictions include 1) Higher tax payer cost for alternative forms of treatment for sexual offenders. I would argue that while alternative cost may cost more initially there is a less likely hood of a repeat offence or a chance for the of fender to end up in a life time stint in jail. If repeat or in the worst case life in Jail results the tax payer inevitably ends up eying more than alternative treatment would have cost. So even though initial costs would be higher for the tax pay the overall benefit if successful would greatly out way the possible negative if Jail time failed. )Decreased restrictions means less disincentive for sexual offenders to commit crime. I would argue that the incentive is still the same for the criminal and it may in fact be even higher for repeat offences because if the offender ends up having to go underground or homeless due to restrictions the chance of them repeating raises. Also offenders that are genuinely obliterated receive a fairer chance in society and are less likely to be draw back to bad habits if they feel connected to normal society. 3)Alternative forms are unproven while solid Jail time is sure to keep offenders off the streets. I would argue that most jail sentences are re duced and accomplish nothing other than embittering offenders.Than eventual Just sending offenders back on to the streets on parole and back into the world destined to fail. Alternative treatment however deals with the root psychological issues that plague offenders and greatly reduces the chance of repeat offence. Section 7 In this assignment I learned many critical thinking skills that allowed me to incorporate concepts learned in class and apply them to my work. I also learned how to make decisions based upon a chart of shareholders and options to come up with the best utilitarian plan for all the share holders in the ethical issue. The assignment showed me that to improve my critical thinking ability I need to incorporate more perspectives into my analysis to better understand the problems. This in turn will allow me to adapt a better solution for problems by covering more aspects and potential congealers. I Nils assignment also snowed me some AT ten linctuses In the American cri minal system in regards to sexual offenders. While I feel no pity for the crimes they committed I do feel they are being wronged in some cases when their rights are being taken away or they are kept in prison after the completion of their sentences. This assignment showed me that more psychological treatment is necessary in many cases and simply trying to keep offenders away from possible victims often causes a greater repeat rate due offenders being forced underground or into homelessness by draconian laws.
Barriers Erected By Health Care Systems
Health is fully available in every moment as one of the most accessible of lifeââ¬â¢s biological forces. Health is a feeling of basic and fundamental goodness, wholeness and uncompromising strength. Health care systems are designed to help maintain the health of individuals by eliminating disease, illness or injury from the body system. However there are barriers that limit health care systems from achieving their goals. The barriers may include shortage of health workers, unaffordable health care services, lack of health care equipments.Shortage of health workers in hospitals especially during weekends occurs because of inadequate funding which compromises the ability of providers to provide a quality and affordable health care services. Some of the barriers of health care are erected by our divisive and dualistic western culture, others by our own habits to separate rather than unify. Making health care affordable is one way of eliminating most barriers of health care this ensur es that every one can visit a health center or clinic without fear of being overcharged.Setting up health savings accounts (HSAs) gives workers the opportunity to save tax-free routine expenses, the security of insurance against major illnesses and the freedom of knowing you can take your account with you whenever you change jobs. Barriers erected by health care personnel Shortage of health care personnel /workers creates a barrier to accessing quality health care. Quality health cares are services offered by people caring for other people. Patients and the general public are unaware of this critical problem and always blame the health workers for insufficiency.Recently accompanied by grand mother for her appointment to the hospital and I was very disappointed, we reported very early for her check up since she was using a pace maker for breathing, we had to wait for three hours before being attended. This was very frustrating. I thought this was worse but and elderly man was brought to the waiting bay with epilepsy. He was convulsing after every two minutes but no one seemed to notice. The nurses and other workers seemed so busy taking care of other patience so we assumed they were ignoring those on the waiting bay.Barriers created by health care systems In most health centers of hospitals health care equipments are insufficient. This results to poor health care administration many patients die due to lack of special equipments and drugs. I went for my practical in a certain health center and witnessed and elderly woman die from muscular dystrophy. This is a rare disease with very devastating symptoms. Her muscles would contract and remain in situ and this affected her breathing patterns. The doctor said there were ho resources to treat her unless if transferred to a state hospital. Her family could not afford to transfer her to a bigger facility. In such situations the public tends to blame the health worker for insufficiency and at times negligence. The state should be responsible for funding health care centers and hospitals to provide enough resources, equipments and drugs. Lack of affordable health insurance policies is also to blame in this case because if this patient had health insurance, she would access health care services from any health facility. Plans to change the barriers to reflect an environment of wellnessRising health care costs are imposing a burden on families and small businesses and put health coverage out of the reach of many Americans. Employing more health workers makes health care provision easier and better. This ensures that the ratio of health workers to patients is even. Reducing the rising costs of health care while improving quality and safety, makes health care accessible to more people especially those with minimum wages. Having a free health centre or clinic in every poor country in America. This will ensure that the jobless also have access to quality health care. This will increase the number of peopl e served by health centers by approximately 35%. Fighting health care fraud and waste by cutting wasteful spending out the Medicare and Medicaid programme. Affordable health cares for low-income families and individuals. High healthcare costs are the reason why many Americans are not insured. The state could help them by contributing to buy their insurance. Affordable health cares for all children. This ensures that all children are born in hospitals and immunized immediately after birth.Association Health Plans (AHPs) for civic groups and other community organizations. Local groups should be allowed to bond together through their regional or national organizations to negotiate low-priced coverage for their members. Maternal child health care should be improved and made affordable to reduce child and maternal mortality rates. This should be coupled with decreased post partum stays to an average of seven days. Hospitals should not overcharge patients for long stays in the wards. They should aim at providing affordable quality services to all patients.Public health awareness should be encouraged to educate the public on the importance of buying health insurance, routine medical checkups and the importance of vaccinations. National market place to shop for health insurance should be established, individual consumers should have the freedom to shop for health insurance in a competitive market place across the state lines to increase the availability of health care coverage and drive down costs. State run insurance pools to help low income Americans get the most of their credits. Free health care for all children should be established.Strengthening competition between generic and brand name drugs will help American consumers save more than $35 billion in drug cost over the next 10 years. There should be more school-based enrollment where parents are informed of the availability of health coverage for the children through medicaid. Grants to faith based and communit y organizations to join with their state medicaid To enroll targeted low-income children. Home visitation should be encouraged and enough funding put into this policy to provide transport and enough medication for the home visits. This should be coupled by the strengthening of the community follow up for the mothers and newborns by public health nurses. Direct accountability for implementation should be assigned by the policy to public health care professionals who believe in the initiative. The support of public health practitioners who advocate for this approach is required for implementation. . How the book changed my personal thinking The book changed my thinking by making me realize that the public is very ignorant to routine check ups such as pap smears, breast examination and eye check ups.Our attitude towards health workers especially nurses and doctors determine how we receive health services. Some people believe that doctors should be men with big bodies and so if treated b y female doctors, they have a negative attitude. We should always be positive about the treatment we receive. It quickens the recovery process. Giving them incentives allowances should motivate health workers or salary increments to encourage them provide better quality health services. In the hospital sector, a major barrier, which appears to have influenced implementations, is that of organizational context. These include lack of beds to allow for longer stays in hospitals and lack of funding to purchase hospital equipments. Direct funding flowed to heath units targeted for provision of special health services, eliminates barriers of health resources and medical equipments. The book made me realize that acquiring health insurances made it cheaper to access health care services. Public health units should receive additional recourses to provide a service they have long wanted to offer to the community and should be trained to provide it professionally. ConclusionPolicy enactment is sometimes in adequate to stimulate practice changes and barrier elimination in health care systems. However policy as a tool must thoughtfully address the organizational, professional and social contexts within which it is to be implemented. To reflect an environment of wellness, all players need to be included. Consumers need to know about health policies and should be informed about their health care options. Policy implementation in any health care system relies upon provider commitment. Providers, consumers and policy makers share the common goal of positive health outcomes.Consumers of health care need to be informed and prepared to hold both providers and policy makers accountable in the making and implementing of health policy. Providers must be convinced that the policy can be implemented and that the outcome will be positive. While health care is often described, as a product health services are fundamentally people caring for other people, therefore, health workers must be devoted to their work to serve and treat patients equally despite of their financial status or racial backgrounds. When barriers to policy implementations exist the policy may fail to meet its objectives to achieve quality affordable and accessible health care services. Health care should be made accessible by ensuring that every county has a health facility or a clinic to serve the community members. All health facilities should charge minimum fees to ensure that all individuals are able to visit health centers without fear of being overcharged. Health workers such as nurses and doctors should be encouraged to be polite and friendly to all patients despite the type of their conditions.Doctors should be encouraged to diagnose a patientââ¬â¢s condition well before prescribing any form of treatment. This ensures that patients are treated for the illnesses. Health system administrations must be established to serve every patient equally despite their races or financial affordability . Health care systems must be designed in such a way that they are able to treat any form of disease or illness. Crucial medical equipments should be provided to the hospitals by the state to make-work more efficient and also to save more lives. This is because patients wonââ¬â¢t need to be transferred to bigger facilities for treatment. Health care administration systems should encourage the health workers to encourage both patients and the public to buy health insurance so as to make assessing quality health care easier and cheaper for them and their families. For health care provision to be efficient the general public should be involved in decision-making concerning the health system. REFERENCES Milio, N (1988).
